Summer is coming to a close, and school will soon be back in session. This may come as a relief to you, but may prove to be quite stressful for your kids who may not be looking forward to going back. Survive the new school year with some of the tips below!

If you have any questions about your child’s new teachers or classes, don’t hesitate to reach out for help! Remember that you don’t need to wait until the first day of class to ask for help. Many schools are open to parent’s questions and concerns a couple of weeks before the first day, so reach out if you need it!

Your children may be a bit anxious to go back to school, especially if they have a new teacher and classroom. This can be unnerving to some kids, but be supportive however you reasonably can. Setting up a meeting with their new teacher or taking them to visit their new classroom can help put their anxiety at ease, if even just a little bit!

Be positive and try to point out some of the positive aspects of getting back to school, such as reminding your children they’ll see some of their friends again and they may even meet new ones!

If it is a new school, attend any orientations and take the opportunity to tour the school before the semester starts. Bring your child prior to the start of the school year and let them play at the school playground for example, and help them get more comfortable in their new environment.

Get your child back into a routine prior to the first day. Many parents allow their children to stay up later and have more fun during the summer because they are out of school. If you haven’t already, try to get them back on a sleep/wake schedule a week or two before school starts so they will be more prepared.
