Dr. James Volk was recognized this week by our community leaders, his colleagues at Hendersonville Pediatrics, friends and family for his many years of service to our community. Dr. Volk joined Hendersonville Pediatrics in 1972. His many accomplishments include setting up our area''s first pediatric neonatal ICU. He practiced pediatrics for 42 years and is beloved by his many patients and their families.

August 1, 2016 was decreed by Major Barbara Volk as Dr. James Volk Day. The event included a presentation of Dr. Volk's career by his former partner, Dr. Ora Wells, followed by the unveiling of a permanent wind sculpture, a gift to Dr. Volk from his Hendersonville Pediatrics partners. The wind art was installed outside of Hendersonville Pediatric's Beverly Hanks Centre office entrance. Dr. Volk's wind sculpture will be a companion piece to an art installation honoring the late Dr. Donald Thomas. Dr. Thomas practiced pediatrics for 28 years before his retirement.
