This is the time of year when the sound of a child coughing can cause a parent some serious anxiety- that’s right flu season is back. Get ahead of the game and schedule your child’s flu shot today. We have a few tips and facts to share with you about the flu vaccine that we hope will put your mind at ease even in the face of your child’s inevitable fear of shots.

The flu vaccine is something that you should seriously consider for your child. The virus itself is unpredictable in that it can vary in seriousness and it is very common, especially for your children that are in a germ infested environment at school. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Center or Disease Control recommends annual influenza immunizations for all those over the age of 6 months.

Although we are in the throws of flu season, it’s not yet too late to get your flu shot. Call your local pharmacy to speak with them about flu shots. Vaccines, of course, can never guarantee complete immunity from the disease, but if you contract the flu after you’ve gotten the vaccine it will be a far milder version than if you hadn’t gotten the vaccine.

Flu vaccines can be given at the same time as other shots; so if your child is due for a booster, inquire about the possibility of them receiving the flu shot during the same visit.

These are just a few useful tips to consider in relation to flu shots. Flu vaccines are the best defense against an unpredictable and potentially dangerous virus.
